The journey begins at a central meeting point, where your experienced and passionate guide will greet you. Your exploration kicks off with a visit to the world-famous Piazza San Marco, one of Venice’s most iconic and revered squares. Piazza San Marco is the heart of the city, surrounded by impressive architectural landmarks that have stood the test of time. At the center of it all stands the majestic Doge’s Palace, a stunning example of Venetian Gothic architecture. Once the residence of the Doge, the head of the Venetian Republic, this grand palace served as both the political and administrative center of Venice for centuries. As you stand before the opulent façade, your guide will delve into the fascinating history of the palace and the pivotal role it played in the governance of this extraordinary republic. You'll learn about the intricate political system of Venice, the power of the Doges, and the significance of the palace in shaping the city’s destiny. As you leave the splendor of Piazza San Marco behind, your adventure continues through the labyrinthine streets of the Castello district. This charming and historic area of Venice is filled with narrow alleyways, picturesque bridges, and quiet canals. As you stroll through these enchanting streets, you’ll arrive at Campo di Santa Maria Formosa, one of Venice’s largest and most significant squares. The square is named after a famous apparition of the Madonna, and its centerpiece is the beautiful church of Santa Maria Formosa. The church is an impressive example of Venetian religious architecture and offers a glimpse into the city’s spiritual heritage. Your guide will share stories of the church's history, its role in Venice’s religious life, and the significance of the miracles that are said to have occurred here. From Campo di Santa Maria Formosa, your tour takes you to another important square, Campo dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo. This area is home to the stunning church of the same name, which houses the tombs of many of Venice’s Doges, making it a key site in the city’s religious and political history. The square also features the magnificent equestrian statue of Bartolomeo Colleoni, a renowned Italian mercenary leader who made a lasting impact on Venetian military history.
