In June 2026, we stayed for one week at the Ausonia Hungaria Hotel. Even though the list of cons below seems to be much longer than the list of pros, we really enjoyed our stay. The good: - The location is perfect! Close to the ferry to venice but equally close to the beach - Beautiful and historic exterior and ground floor; - Luxurious and modern rooms (with great air conditioning) - The staff is very welcoming and pleasant to speak with - The pool and especially the spa are very nice (--> You are supposed to make a reservation for visiting the spa, but we went there adhoc on several occasions and it was never an issue.) The not so good: - The breakfast: The quality is good and the the variety is decent. The problem is that it is served a-la-carte, which means that each item (except for a few) needs to be ordered, prepared, and brought to the table. I am sure the staff is doing there best, but this concept means that you will either have to wait a consideable amount of time between courses, or order everything in advance (which is difficult in terms of having enough space on the table, because every item is prepared on a separate plate). I think a buffet would solve most of these problems (potentially even lower their cost), but for some reason, the hotel decided against that. - During one afternoon, when we went to the pool, we were told by someone from the staff that some of the sunbeds (all of them offering a good amount of shadow) are "reserved". Occupying a sunbed without being present (with a towel for example) is worse enough, but the hotel actively supporting this behavior gives of a very bad feeling. What made matters worse is that those people did not show up for at least another 90 minutes (during which several people were sent away) and then decided to lay somewhere else. - The hotel does not offer free towels for going to the beach. Instead you may rent them (for 5€ per day if i am not mistaken). This is not a deposit, it is a fee that you pay.

Lovely hotel, service very good, rooms excellent, well situated, has it's own pool but contrary to some postings it does not have access to a private beach. There is a private beach on the Lido but nothing to do with the hotel. We were very happy with our choice and would definitely stay here again. Roof terrace a perfect setting for watching the sun go down.

The terrace bar is a lovely spot to grab a sophisticated cocktail or aperitivo. The staff are attentive and unobtrusive. There are several seating options: formal/informal tables, a shaded semi private garden and quirky bed loungers. The location is only a couple of minutes walk from the vaporetto stop in Lido de Venezia on the main street leading to the beach. The lush gardens make it a hidden gem and a great place to relax. The rooftop bar is only open for sunset drinks.

The Pros. The hotel is located on the Lido. So unlike the main islands of Venice this is an area of modern buildings which is very plush. It is an upmarket area and the hotel itself presents as very large and impressive. It has a grand entrance and is smartly furnished with high end fittings and carpets etc. We were greeted with very friendly reception desk staff who appear to be there constantly. Similarly the restaurant and breakfast area staff are all very well turned out and impeccably polite and welcoming. So first impressions are very favourable indeed. The rooms are also spacious and smart with modern decor. The bed was large and comfy. The Cons So we feel that the hotel has got all the big issues right. But its the smaller issues that just let it down. For example the bathroom is an integral part of the bedroom as such. No problem with that in principle. But the bathroom is separated from the main room by a clear glass panel. This includes the toilet which is in the line of sight with the person laying on the bed. So there is zero privacy which is really remiss. We have been married 40 years today but even with this familiarity some privacy by using a barrier or even privacy glass would have been very welcome. So to get any privacy you have to use the lift to use the guest toilets, then there is no loo roll... Added to this there is movement sensor in the bathroom so if you get upon the night it sets off a bright light which then wakes your spouse. Not jut very poor facilities in the room too. For example there is a coffee machine but no instructions in any language of how to use it. There is tea and coffee but no cream or milk in any form. There is a clothes rail but only 3 hangers so most of our clothes could not be hung up. Nearly every hotel we have stayed in provide a folder giving details of the hotel facilities such as the restaurant opening times, the Spa etc. But here there was nothing so no details of how to book any wellness treatments etc. No information about local places etc. It's all just a bit lacking. For a hotel that boasts that it provides 5 star luxury it is just a long way from that. There is just one main towel and a thin sheet for bedding. It just gives an idea of rather penny pinching facilities. We could have approached the cleaning staff but found them unfriendly and surly. So the hotel has clearly spend millions on its construction but then provides very poorly thought out rooms. So we could not recommend this place. It is a pricey hotel and we did expect so much better. Unless it changes ALL the above matters we would not want to return. Shame. PS I note that fellow guest Paula Bernal raised all these issues over 6 months ago. See her review below which we agree with totally. The management replied that they would fix the issues, but none have been. Consider other hotels.

The staff are well behaved and excellent coordination at services, I did not stay, had been visiting for one of our friends honoured guest named Thomas XX arranging a Surprise for His beloved wife's 30th birthday. The manager and his colleagues organised everything excellent. Head's up to the team. Hope our friend likes it's, wish him a happy lovely life ahead.
