Description

Board a small boat in Venice and cross the northern lagoon, passing the cemetery island of San Michele. On the Murano option, your first stop is a glass furnace, where a master shapes molten glass in front of you. Then, continue to Burano, where the fishermen's houses are painted every color of the box.

Meet your host and learn about the island's signature dish, risotto de gò. The gò is a small goby fish caught in the lagoon shallows. It is too bony to eat whole, so Burano cooks turned it into a rich broth, and that broth becomes the risotto.

Learn to build the broth, toast the rice, and stir it the Venetian way: all'onda, loose enough to ripple like a wave. While it rests, prepare a simple seasonal side and pour a glass of Veneto white wine.

Enjoy the risotto you made, eaten at your host's table. Afterwards, have free time to wander Burano's canals, lace shops, and leaning bell tower before the boat takes you back to Venice.
