Description
This guided tour starts at St. Mark’s Square, offering a clear view of Saint Mark's Basilica. Experience skip-the-line access to the Basilica, known as the Basilica d’Oro due to its extensive golden mosaics crafted in the 11th century.
The Basilica was once the Doge’s private chapel until the 19th century, connected to the Doge’s Palace by a covered walkway. While the Basilica represents Venice’s religious history, the Doge’s Palace reveals its political past. This seven-century-old palace housed 120 Doges, government offices, courts, and prisons.
Your guide will lead you through the Doge’s private apartments, the Hall of the Great Council, and other significant chambers. Visit the prisons to hear about their dark history and see the Doge’s gun collection. The tour concludes by crossing the Bridge of Sighs, where you will learn the origin of its name.
