Description
Meet your professional guide for a walking tour of key sites in St. Mark's Square, focusing on the history and architecture of St. Mark's Basilica and the Renaissance-era clock tower. Then proceed to the Castello district to explore its narrow alleys, bridges, winding canals, and squares.
Visit Santa Maria Formosa Square with its historic church, Saints Giovanni and Paolo Square—resting place for several doges—as well as the equestrian monument to Bartolomeo Colleoni and the former residence of Marco Polo.
After a 1.5-hour walk, continue with a 1-hour guided tour inside the Doge's Palace, the former seat of Venetian government. Explore the political history through Renaissance artworks including Tintoretto's largest oil painting. Walk across the Bridge of Sighs and visit the old prison. The guided tour ends in the palace courtyard, but you may remain inside the palace independently.
