If you are in Venice, eat here. If you are in Venice with a teenager and you are hoping they will explore new foods — EAT HERE. One of the most amazing dining experiences of my life, and absolutely my 15-year-old son's best of all time. The restaurant is beautiful, with Murano glass lights arranged to perfection. However, our waiter is what made the night: attentive, helpful, and just generally adorable. He was playful with my son, which put him completely at ease in a restaurant that could otherwise have been outside his comfort zone. He noticed every little detail about us and then used it, quietly, to make the whole evening better. And the food. It was all perfectly presented, and every single thing was delicious. The tuna tartare was fresh and beautiful, dressed simply with good olive oil and citrus. My son ordered the pasta all'arrabbiata from their separate vegetarian card, and our waiter asked whether he'd prefer spaghetti or a short pasta — then brought extra crushed red pepper without being asked. That kind of care, for a teenager's dinner, tells you everything. I had the beef cheek, braised slowly in red wine and served on mashed potatoes: the beef fell apart at the touch of the fork, and the potatoes underneath were smooth and rich enough to stand up to it. And here's the part I still don't understand. We ate so much, and somehow had room for dessert — which never happens to us. Crema catalana for me, gelato affogato al Grand Marnier for him. HOW? We felt like we were fed and cared for by family. If you enjoy delicious food and genuinely personal service, go here — it's in Dorsoduro, just a few minutes' walk from the Frari (but worth the trip from anywhere in Venice). We left happy and looked after, and I'll be chasing this experience for a long time.
