We ate here on our first day in Venice, and we sure put the bar high for the following day! Al Mariner was recommended to us by the host of the apartment we were staying in, and it was great. We ordered the pasta al nero di seppia and the pasta of the day, which we had seen other guests eat while entered and looked really good. It was, but the former was even better. The waitress was really nice and very thoughtful of my kid's allergies. The menu specifies the allergens so we were hesitant about the bolognese pasta, but she told us it the sauce had no issues and offered to add it to rice instead, which we agreed to. He had a veal steak afterwards which was really tasty. We also ordered the mixed fired fish. Excellent as well, but it ended up being too much food, as the platter is quite big and the waitress advised ahainst my kid trying them, as the oil may have been used to fry something that could trigger his allergies. We still left some space for a Tiramisu, the first we had in Venice and the absolute winner in the hard-fought contest of tiramisus held during our stay. All in all, an amazing experience with great food and service. A place not to miss if you are in the Canareggio area for lunch.
We absolutely loved the attention and all the service from the staff. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. Apart from that, we had one of the best risottos we ever had. We loved how home cooked it felt to us, we will definitely come back!
Ended up randomly choosing this restaurant based on reviews and we were so happy we did. Very traditional Venitian cuisine in a less crowded part of the city, we were able to get a table with no reservations. The food was excellent, we ordered seppie in nero con polenta along with spaghetti scampi alla busara. Very enjoyable and a great end to the evening!
Lunch at Osteria al Mariner was such a pleasant experience. It's one of our most memorable meals in Venice! Since seafood is a Venetian specialty, we ordered the spaghetti in black squid ink and the baked sea bass with potatoes, olives, and tomatoes. The spaghetti had a deep, savory flavor with a hint of brininess, and the sauce was smooth and rich without being heavy. There was a generous amount of squid, too! The sea bass was fresh and moist, and the mix of potatoes, olives, and tomatoes gave it a nice balance of salty and sweet flavors. The restaurant is in Cannaregio, away from the busiest parts of Venice, so it wasn’t crowded. We didn’t wait long to be seated. The canal-side tables were already full, so it’s worth making a reservation if you want that spot. Still, the wooden, rustic interior with the lively kitchen and bar created a warm, cozy ambience. The server who attended to us was a such a nice lady. When we complimented the food, she was proud and smiled so brightly! If you're in Cannaregio, make sure to dine here.
