This is a typical tourist-oriented restaurant. The menu is quite extensive, resembling a booklet with many different dishes designed to suit a wide variety of tastes. We ordered the ravioli and the pasta with pesto and burrata; the food was not exceptionally good, but at the same time, it was not bad either. A major highlight of the experience was that they serve draft beer in large 1.0-liter glass mugs. It is a decent, straightforward option if you are looking for a casual meal with a broad selection.
Here’s a polished review you can post: Without a doubt, one of the highlights of our 5-day stay in Venice. From the moment we arrived at Antico Capon Trattoria, we were made to feel incredibly welcome. Our waiter, Ayub, provided some of the best service we’ve ever experienced—friendly, attentive, professional, and genuinely passionate about making our evening special. He really made the whole experience unforgettable. We started with the calamari, which was simply outstanding—the best we’ve ever had. For our first course, we enjoyed the duck fettuccine and the seafood fettuccine, both of which were absolutely fantastic and full of flavour. We finished with the Pizza Diavola and Pizza Inferno, and they were the perfect way to round off an incredible meal. We enjoyed so many wonderful meals during our five days in Venice, but this is the one we’ll always remember. The exceptional service from Ayub, the fantastic food, and the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere combined to create a truly memorable dining experience. If you’re visiting Venice, Antico Capon Trattoria is an absolute must. We can’t recommend it highly enough!
Had a great dinner and dessert here! Food tasted great and the atmosphere of the square was perfect! Our server Ayub was great and made sure we had everything we needed! Would recommend this place to anyone visiting Venice
Had the set price lunch menu and was very impressed by the quality of the food. All freshly made and perfectly cooked. Very good value at 17 Euros per person for two courses with ample portion sizes. Good service from Ayub too and a nice gesture of a complimentary limoncello at the end of our meal. Would happily return. EDIT: We did return for dinner on a subsequent evening and it was equally delicious! 😋
Maybe my mistake was coming here on a Saturday, when they were in full PR, "let's get clients to eat here by any means necessary" mode. I don't like being cold approached by staff outside of the restaurant, begging me to come inside. To me, that's a symptom of a not very good place. However, I had looked at the reviews in Google first and had the place in mind while in The Academia area, so I said, what the hell, let's go. After being seated, they asked us to move to a different table, as they had a large party coming in and needed the table. OK, no big deal. However, once they changed us it seemed as if they forgot about us completely. The guy who seemed to be in charge (and asked us to switch tables) didn't come to check on us even once, and we were unfortunate enough to be served by the most inept waiter I have encounter in many years. Maybe he had been hired only for the weekend, maybe it was his first day(s)... but he didn't seem to understand what we were trying to order, even when we pointed at the dish on the menu. I don't speak italian, but Spanish is close enough and the names of the dishes are not that different...so he should have been able to understand when I spoke slowly. He also wasn't the fastest with the dishes and I saw him take back to the kitchen orders from other tables that didn't correspond to what they had asked, so I know it was not just me. Anyway, the food finally arrived and it was good. Very decent octopus and potato salad and a very good pasta with lobster and seafood. Not as good as the one we had the day before, but you can never go wrong with pasta in Venice. My kid's pizza was very underwhelming, though. Nice desserts as well, Tiramisu and panacotta, although it took them ages to arrive. Again, maybe it's because they were bustling and we seemed to have the worst waiter in the entire restaurant. So, to sum up. Food is good. Service pretty terrible, but maybe we were just unlucky. The area is very nice, and the weather was lovely, so we sat outside... The place looked really neat on the inside. Again, maybe we'd have been better off sitting inside? We'll never know. We came from two excellent meals the previous days, with over the top service, so we left pretty underwhelmed here. Circumstances and bad luck, maybe, but I won't be recommending this place.
